The Birchmere Music Hall
Sun. Oct. 18: DARYL DAVIS PRESENTS: A TRIBUTE TO CHUCK BERRY -7:30pm- Tix: $39.50 ($53.65 through Ticketmaster, $46.50 at the Birchmere Box Office) A 100th Birthday Tribute to the Founding Father of Rock’n’Roll: CHUCK BERRY Featuring: THE NIGHTHAWKS WITH DARYL DAVIS ROCK & ROLL LEGEND CHUCK BERRY’S 100TH BIRTHDAY HONORED IN ALL-STAR TRIBUTE AT THE BIRCHMERE As the United States celebrates 250 years of independence, a major musical milestone is coming to the DMV.
On Sunday, October 18, renowned musician Daryl Davis will lead an all-star tribute to the founding father of Rock ’n’ Roll, the late, great Chuck Berry, who would have turned 100 this October. Acclaimed Blues and Boogie Woogie musician and peace builder Daryl Davis – internationally recognized for his courageous, historic deradicalization work with members of the Ku Klux Klan – will be joined by some of the finest musicians in the DMV – The Nighthawks, Dave Chappell, Dan Hovey, Richard Schwarz, Bob Newscaster and Guy Bouchie.
Special Guest Charlie Berry: Chuck Berry’s own grandson, will be joining them on stage to carry the family torch and deliver that unmistakable, historic guitar sound—the very sound his grandfather created to form a uniquely American genre of music. In the mid-1950s, Chuck Berry’s groundbreaking guitar sound completely transformed the music industry, taking over the radio with legendary hits like “Maybelline,” “Johnny B.
Goode,” “Roll Over Beethoven,” and “Sweet Little Sixteen”. Teenagers finally found an exciting new style of music that spoke directly to them and their lives—a sound they could call their own: Rock ’n’ Roll.
Their parents’ Big Band Swing Era was officially over, and a wild new era of rock had arrived! This historic evening at the legendary Birchmere is a rare opportunity to experience the architecture of Rock ’n’ Roll played by those who lived it and learned from the master himself.
