Saudade will be opening in the Lounge Gallery on October 29, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. and will be on view through January 2, 2027.
In these works, Sinclair explores the concept of opposition. Light is balanced with shadow, movement with stillness, life with death, and ecstasy with the melancholic.
Through these contrasts, Sinclair suggests that existence is a culmination of opposites meant for us to experience. She will be giving a talk on her work on November 19 at 5:30 p.m.
Through combining photography, painting, and site-specific installation, the work asks viewers to look both at an image and beyond it to experience the otherworldly. In the work, absence becomes a viscerally felt presence, and surfaces become sites of exchange and encounter.
Water, canvas, transparent film, and skin operate as permeable membranes, where boundaries between image, body, and world dissolve and the ordinary are revealed as sacred. These sites act as thresholds between opposites, turning longing into a medium that reveals the divine within the visible world.
Sinclair is a painter shaped by a background in dance and somatic practice. Her work is informed by her time spent living in a French monastery, and early experiences of death and bodily fragility.
She received an atelier training at Townsend Atelier, the New York Academy of Art, and the Florence Academy of Art before earning degrees in Philosophy and Art from Sewanee: The University of the South. She is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Georgia, where her interdisciplinary practice investigates perception, transformation, and the porous boundaries between body, image, and spirit.
All exhibitions at Lyndon House Arts Center are free of charge and open to the public. Exhibitions are on view during regular gallery hours Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Fri
