What if caring for the land is the path to our own wellness? In De-centering the human: high performance in service of food systems and the environment: Kū ka piko i ka lolo, Josh Mori examines how ʻai kapu-era kupuna (pre 1819) used story-driven relationships with ʻāina (land and natural resources) to support the wellness of their minds, bodies, and spirits.
This conversation braids the three-piko alignment of humans with the ahupuaʻa structure of land to guide interventions aimed at bringing back aloha ʻāina (love of land), mālama ʻāina (caring for land), and kuleana (obligation), for the benefit of both ʻāina and kānaka (all people). Joshua Dean Iokua Ikaikaloa Mori lives on Kaua'i in the moku of Kona, ahupua'a of Waimea with his wife and three children.
He is the founder and Executive Director of Iwikua (https://www.iwikua.org/), a nonprofit organization focused on community wellness through sustainable food production, physical fitness, and cultural exchange. Josh is a Ph.D.
