The vibrant city of Oaxaca, Mexico awaits you this summer!
SMFA 194 - Special Topics: Fresco in Mexico takes students to Oaxaca, Mexico to study the history, techniques, and materials of fresco as practiced both locally and in the United States. Fresco, a painting method with a 3,500-year cross-cultural history, uses materials and chemistry found worldwide, yet each work reflects the stories and traditions of its culture. Students will explore Western, Nahuatl, Mixtec, and Zapotec approaches to fresco, while also observing how its materials are applied beyond art. The course offers a unique chance to create and experience fresco panels and murals as both an artistic tradition and a living part of everyday culture. This course is 4SHUs
