Panther’s Poetry Prompts
Panther’s Poetry Prompts is having its first event! Last year during National Poetry Month, I posted weekly writing prompts inspired by Black films that I love to force myself (and anyone else) to write more and watch more films.
In honor of Hoodoo Heritage Month, I chose to kick off this in-person session with “Daughters of the Dust”. This film is an intergenerational story of a Gullah Geechee family’s journey post-enslavement and hits themes of tradition vs modernity, identity, matriarchy, and a whole bunch of other stuff I think could create some amazing poems!
You don’t *have* to watch the film before the event, but its free on YouTube! Plus its really good, so why not?
Bring some pencil and paper to meet me at Fitz to wax poetic on 10/17!! Maybe I’ll make this into a series
