Opening event details
Trick-or-treat the dunes, make sand art, and ride the no-scare Halloween train. Bring the whole family to 20 acres of glacial sand for a Halloween celebration like nowhere else in Maine.
Costumes are welcome, the pace is easy, and every scare here is the friendly kind. This family-friendly Halloween event in Freeport is built for kids of every age, from the treat trail through the dunes to the seasonal train ride.
Trick-or-treating on the dune trails Little monsters, princesses, and superheroes follow the trails from treat station to treat station, with sweet surprises waiting along the way. Costumes encouraged for grown-ups too.
A no-scare Halloween train ride See the sights from our electric train, fashioned after an 1800s Maine Central Railroad engine. Enjoy a tour of the dunes and forest in a half-mile loop, stopping at many of our visitors’ favorite exhibits, including Gemstone Village, Fossil Dig and Shady Grove.
Sand art made from the dunes Take home a colorful, one-of-a-kind sand art creation made with real sand from the glacial desert. Layer your own colors at the station, cap it off, and carry out a souvenir of the dunes that no one else will have.
Fall ice cream sundaes Build your own sundae and find a spot to enjoy it by the Oasis. Additional food options will be available on the day, with details to come.
Whether you’re three or a hundred and three, bring your camera, your costume, and your appetite for adventure. Join us on October 31 Tickets are $21 for adults and $17 for youth and students, with free parking on site.
