Dance of the Seven Veils: Mystery Writing with Terri Maue
Dance of the Seven Veils: What a Mystery Author Knows (and you should, too) About Hiding and Revealing the Truth
Join author Terri Maue in this interactive workshop in which participants are invited to explore seven key ideas regarding writing a mystery novel: nouns, verbs, distractors, stereotypes, visceral impacts, hiding in plain sight, and selective attention. Mystery writing is tricky business, meaning that writers are in the business to trick readers. Mystery authors will provide all the clues, but they strive to obfuscate those clues to fool the reader into looking elsewhere. And just like the proverbial Dance of the Seven Veils, when the whole truth is revealed, the reader will be delighted to know that the authors have played fair the entire time, that the reader had a real chance to solve the mystery before the big revelation. Materials will be provided.
Free & open to the public. Books by the author will be available for purchase and signing after the program. First-time authors and those seeking publication are especially encouraged to attend. Seating is first come, first served and may be limited. For more information, please call 702.507.3458.
