Smart Telescopes: A New Way to Explore the Night Sky

Discover how a new generation of compact, computerized “smart telescopes” is making astronomy and astrophotography more accessible than ever as we explore the new technology at the Neenah Public Library on October 22, 2026, at 6:30 pm. These instruments can automatically locate, track, and photograph galaxies, nebulae, star clusters, and other celestial objects, even from light-polluted locations.

Rick Beal, a member of the Northeast Wisconsin Stargazers (NEWSTAR), will explain how smart telescopes work, demonstrate the kinds of images they can produce, and discuss their advantages and limitations. The presentation is intended for anyone interested in astronomy, from curious beginners to experienced amateur astronomers.

We hope to venture outside at the end of the program for a hands-on opportunity with smart telescopes. Please contact Mehta if you have questions at [email protected] or 920-886-6315.

This program was made possible by the Friends of the Neenah Library and the Neenah Public Library Trust Fund. Donations to the Friends and the Trust Fund are always accepted and appreciated.

Everyone is welcome. If accommodations are needed to attend, please contact the library administrative office at 920-886-6315 or by email at [email protected] at least 24 hours in advance of the program.
