Claritas Lecture Presents: Eileen Hebets
Eileen Hebets is a behavioral ecologist whose research explores how animals communicate, particularly in the context of courtship and reproduction. Her work examines how signals evolve through the complex interactions among signalers, receivers and the environments in which communication occurs.
By combining field studies, laboratory experiments, genetics, physiology and neuroscience, she investigates the factors that shape animal behavior and communication systems. Much of her research focuses on arachnids, including wolf spiders, jumping spiders and other spider relatives.
Using these diverse species as model systems, she seeks to better understand the evolution, function and diversity of animal signals. Hebets is a professor in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
