Crab Pot Tree on the Embarcadero
Why the Morro Bay Crab Pot Tree Is a Local Favorite The Crab Pot Tree is one of Morro Bay’s most recognizable holiday traditions, celebrating the town’s working waterfront in a way only Morro Bay can. Built from stacked commercial crab pots and decorated with festive lights and seasonal décor, the tree stands as a tribute to the commercial fishing community that has shaped the harbor for generations.
Located along the Embarcadero, the Crab Pot Tree is a favorite stop for locals and visitors throughout December. It offers a perfect photo opportunity during the day, but truly comes to life after sunset when the lights illuminate the waterfront.
The display is free to enjoy and is especially beautiful between 5:00 and 9:00 PM. Bundle up for a stroll along the harbor, enjoy dinner at one of the nearby waterfront restaurants, and take in one of Morro Bay’s most distinctive holiday traditions.
After the season ends, the crab pots return to their intended purpose, heading back into service for the commercial crab season, making the Crab Pot Tree a fitting reminder of the community’s deep connection to the sea.
